About Rob Hylton

Rob Hylton is a pen name (my real name is Ken)

I used a pen name initially because when I started teachwombat back towards the end of the first decade of this century I was working for some very silly people one of whom confidently told me that because I taught for them for two days per week using materials I had developed before starting to work for them that they owned all of my copyrights

The internet and social media has confirmed that there is very little to be gained from arguing with idiots so when I set up teachwombat rather than do that I just used a pen name

I no longer work for them and as far as I know they never found out so I guess it worked :)

Here's some info about what I do and have done when I'm not doing this.....

Musician

While studying at and after graduating from music college I have followed a career as a gigging musician playing alongside folks you've probably never heard of and a few who were/are jolly famous

I have also worked on occasion as a theatre musician and as backing to solo artists and cabaret acts etc I have appeared on a number of TV shows and radio broadcasts

Private Teacher

In addition to my playing career I have worked as a private guitar/bass guitar teacher and love it

Teaching Guitar In Schools

I have worked extensively in schools teaching from kindergarden through to sixth form/high school stage

Lecturer

I also worked for many years in colleges and universities as both a specialist instrumental teacher and as a lecturer devising and delivering courses on a wide range of subjects including Composition, Arranging, Songwriting, Ensemble Playing, Music for Film and The Music Business I have devised courses and delivered educational programmes at both degree and diploma level

During this period I also devised a range of specialist Music Business materials that I sold to other colleges

During my time as a lecturer I studied for and was awarded a PGCE (post graduate certificate of education)

Journalist

I have contributed occasional articles and carried out interviews on behalf of "Guitarist" magazine and for just over two years I provided an instrumental tuition column to "Total Guitar" Magazine ("Guitarist" and "Total Guitar" were/are Euroupe's most popular specialist guitar publications)

Consultant

At various times I have provided arts and music based consultancy services as required to local authorities, private companies and organisations such as the Department of Employment and regional arts development agencies etc

Other stuff

In addition to teachwombat I also own and designed "musicteachingresources.com" which provides downloadable resources to classroom music teachers all over the world

I also like to read books, drink beer, watch football and play guitar in my shed

Cheers! Rob (and Ken!)
